Poe also created the modern mystery story where a detective uses intuition and deductive reasoning to solve crimes. See "The Beautiful Cigar Store Girl" for a look at how a true life murder Poe "Investigated" turned into the story " The Mystery of Marie Roget". So they've got a true to life background story to use.

Hrmmmrmm. I naturally want this to be good, but cynicism prevents me from being too optimistic, at least until I actually see a final product.

I feel rather cautiously optimistic.

If only I could somehow erase my knowledge of Poe's actual life and death from my brain, I'd be more inclined to enjoy this. But perhaps it will be entertaining and make me forget that Poe died a dismal death in 1849. I'm sure his life as a widower wasn't entirely miserable, even if it seems that way through the lens of history. So, I will rein in my cynicism and reserve judgement till I actually see it.
