I find Etsy very worthwhile. It does tend to take a while for sales to ramp up, though: I recommend getting a selection of work listed as soon as you can, promoting your shop online wherever you can think of, but then not being disappointed if it takes months to start making sales. My experience was that it really took about a year for me to start making more than a trickle of sales. Over time, people will mark you as a favorite, and that will help other people find you.

I just got a steampunk piece of jewelry from Etsy for a Christmas present! Seems like quite a popular place to get jewelry from so I think your work would do very well over there. Go for it :]

One thing to watch out for is that Etsy's customer support (that is, the company's support of you, the shop owner using their site) is notoriously bad, and they tend to take cross-listing (having links to off-Etsy shops) poorly. You might try a trial experiment with them, and with some other similar services, like ArtFire or 1000 Markets.

(If you want lots of dirt on Etsy, EtsyBitch is a good site - though they do have a chip on their shoulder about the company.)

It's a shame Etsy itself is so dysfunctional, because there are so many cool artists there.
