the prodigal returns

Greetings, Clockwork Cohorts,

I was interested in steampunk many years ago. I wouldn't say that I "dabbled," seeing as I don't remember merely "dabbling" in anything but, for some reason, my active interest faded. But here I am in the present(or future, far past...or alternate present) looking for some cringes shopping advice.

1) Where might I find a ( Read more... )

If you're looking to cross-dress, I recommend looking into Utility Slim Fit vests for men. I have a plain, black, five-button vest from them, and it works very well for me, even though I'm often too petite to wear men's clothing.

And you can find them at Target! That's where I got mine.

I wasn't really thinking of cross-dressing. Made me laugh in a good way. Juniors department would be "proper" for me to wear but, as my style has changed, bust seams are becoming more of an annoyance, especially seeing as I don't really need it... I'll take a look for what you mentioned. Thank you.

Target has been such a friend to me in the past. Heh.

http://clockworkcouture.com/?q=node/128 I have these on clearance for $17.95

Otherwise, I do believe I saw some rather nice ones at my local Target too, so that may be a good place to look. Vests are so very common, that I think a trip to your local thrift shop would yield a success.

Good luck and glad your interest has been renewed.

I would try to find a vest at a local thrift store and taking it in to fit a woman's body, but I sew and crap. If you don't sew, that might not be much of an option. :/

I'm with donna_ricci & msmcknittington in thirding thriftshop-crawling.
This: http://community.livejournal.com/budget_steam/
hasn't updated in awhile, but sometimes has used footwear of various Steamy styles.
And: http://community.livejournal.com/steamy_stitches/
just had an entry about Fleuvogs [etc.] on eBay.
Try this community's tags on shoes & boots also- suggestions for many women's flat heels as well as high.

I shall return to the thrift shops with a new pair of eyes!

And, just out of curiousity, what prompted you to assume I am a female? Selectively analytical minds would love to know.

msmcknittington is female, so her fitting comment could be discounted.
The Steam links/tags can be useful for females or males; Fluevogs have styles for any sex; I noticed women's flat-heeled footwear as many women don't want heels, so good as a general tip.
Actually, just a 'feel' for the convo flow, but anyone can find something to fit their Steam in the info above.
These are my re-enactment boots:

I'm a small male, myself.
