I bought these vegan boots today at a shop on lower Broadway for $15:
They're quite comfortable, true-to-size, and vegan! They look a little different than the photo above or the one on the site - not quite so rumply around the brass studs, the fabric lays flat across the side and over the top of the foot, with only a slight ripple between each stud. They are probably a ripoff of a leather version. I thought I'd share them if there are any vegan steampunks who might be interested in high boots.
I also wanted to give a heads-up to New Yorkers - there are loads of inexpensive military jackets, vests, and even dresses at the store where I got the boots on lower Broadway:
Mystique Boutique. These Sg. Pepper-styled jackets often sell for steep prices on eBay, so it was nice to see some reasonably priced versions between $10.00 - $23.00. The shop doesn't look like much from the street but if you walk towards the back, there's lots of very steam-able clothing. It's on the east side of Broadway, just south of Canal, and definitely worth a look if you are aiming for a military look. The only catch is that they only stock S, M, and L and their sizes are pretty small - the L looked to be about a 10-12 max but not for chesty girls. But if you are a NYer are in that size range and looking for inexpensive jackets, vests, or dresses, this place does have a boatload.
