Oh, that's lovely! But could you take the face out if you wanted to and replace it with something that looked a little more aged? I'm just curious. I've never had a compass I could risk messing with.

Hmm. . thats an interesting thought, I'm not sure how that would work. If you wanted to try it out, this would be the one to do it on as I picked mine up for about three dollars.

I carry a pocketwatch in one vest pocket and a brass compass (similar to this one) in the other, with a chain that goes between, by way of a buttonhole, with a small medallion hanging from the center...I don't have any good pictures, I hope that makes sense...?

I got a compass at American Science and Surplus - then pried off the cover, dug out the plastic glow-in-the-dark side-lining, added a bit of copper paint under the numbers so they look less like molded-plastic and glued the cover back on.
