A work in progress.

I'm hard at work on my costume for CONvergence, which is coming up in (eek!) 2 weeks. There's still a ton of work to do - the skirt needs some buckles; I need to whack the bejeesus outta the tool belt with a rubber mallet to give it an aged look, etc. - but I'm pleased with how it's coming so far, so I wanted to share a picture.

Well. My uploading-fu appears to be weak today, so I'll just do it as a link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/39628420@N06/3642048108/

Okay, now that I can see your pic... I like it. It's a good base. I would think hard about adding such vibrant colors without any others to off set them though. The arm warmers and hat band stand out too much. You can either add a few more touches of matching color or remove them, to make the outfit work a little better as a whole.

Also, you are sending really mixed signals as to whom you are portraying. A tophat and a toolbelt can work together but it isn't feeling right for me. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the input, artvixn!

I had the same thought about the hat band (which is actually a scarf) and arm warmers as soon as I saw the picture. Fortunately, my lovely wife has a scarf that is the same color as the arm warmers, and she's willing to let me borrow it. That will look much better.

Your other suggestion I'll have to think about more. For me, it's never been about developing a persona per se; it's more about the kick-ass, um...milieu of steampunk (hah!). But now that I think about it, my steampunkesque writing is always about the places where the seedy and the genteel come crashing into each other. I think tool belt (soon-to-be) full of greasy tools + top hat is going to work well for me.

Ah-hah! I'm a steampunk edgewalker. Equally comfortable promenading my bicycle through the park on Sunday afternoon and fixing it when if it breaks down. Heh.

The scarf sounds like it will tie it together nicely.

I do hope to participate in the SteamCentury games. And possibly the Fashion Exposition.

I haven't done much with the tool belt yet. I need to beat it up with a rubber mallet to make it looked aged. Found it at Ax-Man. I totally less-than-three Ax-Man!

You should certainly join in the Fashion Exposition, you deserve to show off your hard work!

Also, we are coming up a day early from Wisconsin JUST to go to SR Harris and Ax-man!

I think you look precious. Not sure about the loafers, otherwise the look is ace.

Thanks. The picture doesn't show the shoes well, but they're actually pretty good heels. They have a sort of Edwardian look to them. They might need some alteration, though; but if I run out of time (a highly likely possibility), that might be the first to go. ::sigh::
