Body Weight: 236lbs.
I came bounding into the gym this morning, laughing and raring to go. That seemed to energize the friendly acquaintances throughout the room. It was fun to see that effect on people.

I teased Juliet, the lady who works at the gym, about the disturbing sign posted in most lavatories reading "Employees Must Wash Hands" and declared emphatically "I wash my own damn hands". I also shared aloud my dread of large shopping malls. There are kiosks posted in malls with charts showing the lay-out of the place and little red arrows pointing out "You are here". How do they freaking know? I've been checking: in two years they've not been wrong once. Spooky. I'll bet the Department of Homeland Security is behind it.

People laughed at that.

Some of my friendly acquaintances have been very generous in sharing advice. Ned (a good guy) has gently nagged me for an improper (as in non-existant) warm-up routine. So today - at his prompting - I tried a little warm-up, benching 135lbs. It was so damn light I launched it upward and nearly lost control of the bar!

I go to the gym to work out, and not primarily to socialize. I've been making an effort - however slight - to be more approachable and less anti-social. Even the shyest gym-pixie now smiles and says "Hello" instead of running away. The cynic in my keeps waiting for the other shoe to fall, but maybe I've stumbled into a good place.

It could be.
