[Xander can be found inside the Battle Dome today. Observers might look in and see a dark, murky graveyard inside the simulator. Bare trees, tombs, crypts and stones provide a jagged landscape for the lone young man inside, who looks---afraid. He's got an axe on his back, a stake in each hand, and a big lump in his throat ( Read more... )

[Oh, dear God...

Vamp Cordy will suddenly find herself getting hit with quite a lot of holy water to the face. Giles is not pleased by this turn of events.

If that doesn't work, then out comes the stake.] Leave him alone.

[Giles would tell you to hurry the hell up, Xander, but he's...pretty sure you're aware of the danger. So it will remain unsaid. The press of vampires makes it easy to stake them, but his barrier only works against attacks from the front and Giles just barely manages to duck as one of them manages to get around it and goes for his throat]

Uh---Giles? I think it's stuck. [No, it's not stuck. He's just weak as a kitten, bless him.]

Of course it is. [This whole thing is only serving to justify Giles' hatred of all things computer]

Hang on. [Dust. Dust. Not dust. Oh, dear. The barrier does him no good in this press, and Giles needs both hands. He drops it and goes to work getting out of the press. It's slow progress, but he makes some progress]

[There's some more fumbling at the door. Now a vampire is homing in on Xander. It goes to attack the daft boy! AND---the entire simulation shuts down. A mortality-prevention failsafe. The holographic chamber becomes empty of vampires, and it's like Giles and Xander are standing alone in an abandoned cemetery.

The door clicks open.]

......Oh.

[Giles sits down heavily on the not-actually-grass, panting for breath. Okay, he'd known he was out of practice, but that? That was ridiculous.

Xander gets a very disapproving scowl from the Watcher. Giles takes a few seconds to get his breath back, and then he's back on his feet and going to help Xander]

You know that talk we had, about how sometimes you have good ideas?

[Xander looks up at him. He's slumping again. And bleedy.]

Was this the part where I got my ironic comeuppance?

No, that was the part where you got your ironic comeuppance. I certainly can't add anything to twenty vampires. This is the part where you go to the clinic. [He's irritated and being very sarcastic about it, but Xander's bleeding. Giles does have priorities] There's one in the building. You can at least rest up there.

Can't I just rest here? This is comfortable. [Half-propped now against a pointy rusty wrought-iron fence.]

Let's at least get you out of the room. For all we know, this thing might turn itself back on and bring the vampires back. [Giles un-props Xander from the fence and holds him upright. He can do most of the walking, if Xander can just not fall over]

[Xander can mostly not fall over.] So how long are the I told you so's going to last?

Five minutes. While we stop you bleeding all over yourself. [Out the door, back into the Dome proper. There's a bench. Giles sits Xander on it] Wait there.

[He hurries off, and returns in a few minutes with a first aid kit from the medical room]

Still. I should probably at least thank you for helping me reaffirm my deep seated dislike of vampires.

I'm glad it did SOMEONE some good. I couldn't hate vampires any more than I did before I started. [Relief at the sight of the medical kit.] And I'm pretty much also confirmed in my belief that Cordelia will always be kind of a bitch.

You two certainly made for an odd couple, yes. [Giles has way too much experience with a medical kit - he goes to work disinfecting and bandaging Xander's throat]

Yeah, well, I kind of miss her anyway. OUCH! Could that stuff STING any MORE? Do you really think a holographic projection will transmit contagious disease?

consultmybooks October 19 2010, 01:58:14 UTC
That holographic projection shouldn't even have been able to bite you in the first place. [Which is to say, in Giles-speak - yes, and deal with it.]

I haven't really heard from her in a couple of years.
