So far I've only really heard good news about the Elissa and her museum. Still no word about the Tremont (other than a very brief "closed until further notice" message on their website), Gaido's, Fisherman's ( Read more... )

I am right there with you. So many fond memories, and I've not heard reports yet about how the places you've mentioned above have fared, either.

all the places built out over the water (on the seawall) are gone. Murdoch's, Hooters, Balaniese Ballroom..everything but the Flagship(it has damage but it is still standing) I really worry for the businesses on the Strand..I hope they can do DICKENS but I doubt it. So sad.

They're saying Ike did more damage than Katrina back in 05. I did construction work in Pearlington, MS where Katrina's hit hit dead-center and if what they say about Ike is true, it will be YEARS before things get back to normal from them, building and business-wise.

My parents used to own a house on Bolivar just a few miles from Galveston. I sent my mother this link http://ngs.woc.noaa.gov/ike/IKE0000.HTM between us we could not recognize the coast line enough to find where the house used to be. I am pretty sure there is nothing standing in the place any longer.
