Ever since Ike, I've been poring over news stories and videos about Galveston, trying to find a status on my favorite Galveston places. So far I've only really heard good news about the Elissa and her museum. Still no word about the Tremont (other than a very brief "closed until further notice" message on their website), Gaido's, Fisherman's Wharf, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Willie G's, the Ferries to Pelican Island, Pelican Island itself, etc. etc.
I saw someone post that they wouldn't count on there being a Dickens this year. We have reservations at the Tremont for that weekend, we've had them for a while. I'm not canceling anything, though. And I'm not going to halt my costuming plans to "wait and see" at all. I'm still going to make & buy the things that I had planned before the hurricane, as if nothing happened. I *have* to believe that they will still have a Dickens. Because they want to get things back to "normal" in Galveston, or as close to "normal" as possible, right? I don't know if they'll be ready in time, but I have to believe that Dickens will happen. I have some VERY fond memories of that festival and the Tremont. I have the vacation days already set. I have the fabric already. I have a stack of patterns.
I want to see Galveston again. It's been three years and I've missed her. I have to believe. :-(
