Just saw the (American version of) the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I haven't seen any of the Swedish versions or read the books, but I can say this much-- the movie is awesome. Lisbeth is awesome. I will probably buy it when it comes out.

I have yet to see the American version, but the books are awesome. The first one is a bit slow, but once it gets going you can't put it down. Lisbeth is damn amazing, and such a neat character too. :) I highly recommend the books

Thanks for the rec! I really should read them... I actually don't think I've talked to anyone who's read the books about the books yet so I'm glad to hear you recommend them ( ... )

Whoops this is pornography. The first 50 or so pages of the first book are quite dull, but then it gets so good. And the second one was so good it was stressful, lol.

Thanks for the rec! I'm also glad you warned me about the first 50 pages-- then I know not to take the beginning as indicative of the whole thing. haha so good it's stressful? That sounds very entertaining XD

If you have Netflix, you can stream the Swedish movies. I watched the original movie the other day. Some of it was a little squicky for me, but I thought it was a good movie. I wanted to see it because of Noomi Rapace. I liked her in the new Sherlock Holmes movie.

Ooh I didn't know that lady played anyone in the original films... interesting.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to have to try again. For some reason, I've tried to watch the Swedish movie maybe 2 or 3 times now, but every time I didn't make it more than 10 minutes into the movie before I stopped it and did something else. Maybe I was trying to watch it when I wasn't in the right mood.

I'm curious now how the squickiness compares between the Swedish and American versions, because man, there were some places in the American one I was cringing and actually leaning back in my seat with my hands in fists, because I didn't know what was going to happen and I almost didn't want to watch whatever it was occur. I haven't reacted that way in a movie theatre in a really long time if ever.

I will second the book and Swedish movie recommendations! They are all awesome. I read all 3 books in about 4 days. Couldn't put them down once I got invested in the story.

I was like you-- I knew next to nothing going into it, so I was unprepared for the creepy rapes scenes. Ugggh. I cringed watching them...

I don't think she was any of those things you worried about in the American film so you should definitely try! Of course I can't say in comparison but I do know that my friend who found it a little hard to understand Lisbeth exactly in the Swedish film (but still liked her well enough) loved her immediately in the American. He said in the Swedish films he liked her but didn't really LOVE her until the third film. I'm assuming something that happens must have clicked with him. I have no idea since I know nothing about future plot and hope to keep it that way. Anyway, he loved her from the start in the American.

I have to admit, I loved her from the start too. She's different looking, very curt to the point of almost bitchy sometimes, socially inaccessible, and I'm just saying she looks awesome in her leather jacket *_*
