I suddenly got bit by a plot bunny. The plot bunny was: what if Faith and Buffy had been friends in LA before Buffy was a Slayer? How would that change things between them? This is the result of said plot bunny.

Summary: What if Faith was from Buffy’s past in LA?
Once upon a time, they had been best friends, practically inseparable. But everything started to sour between them around the time that Buffy’s parents started fighting on a regular basis. Before Faith had known it, Buffy had changed and she wanted nothing to do with Faith anymore. Then her parents had divorced and Buffy had moved away from LA without even a goodbye.
Faith had kept her head up, refusing to lose her popularity because her ex-best friend had decided to hang out with the rejects like Pike and his friend, and do stupid things like burn down the gym during prom. But two summers after Buffy had left, things changed for Faith and she found out that she was a Slayer.
She never really thought of how she dreamt of Buffy intermixed with the Slayer dreams. Instead Faith just wrote it down to the fact that she missed her best friend. That was until her Watcher, Wesley, had taken her to Sunnydale because the Slayer there couldn’t handle a situation on her own.
When Faith had walked into the library with an arrogant swagger, she was shocked to see Buffy standing there. It felt like she was being punched in the stomach repeatedly. There stood her former best friend, acting as if everything was okay.
“Faith?” Buffy asked as she took notice of her former friend.
“Small world, ain’t it?”
“But, how?”
“From what Wes tells me you died, that activated another Slayer and when she died, that activated me. I guess the first Watchers didn’t take into account modern first aid.”
Faith glared at her former friend feeling hurt and angry that Buffy hadn’t trusted her with the truth. Yet from all outward appearances she had trusted Pike with her secret and she had trusted the small group of students in the library as well. But she had never trusted Faith with the truth.
“Faith, I am sorry. I didn’t know.”
“Sure B, whatever. How about your Watcher fills me on the situation so that I can get back to LA?”
Buffy looked helplessly at her Watcher and then back at Faith. The blonde obviously wanted to say something but for some reason she wouldn’t. And Faith was glad of that. For two years, she thought that Buffy had stopped being her friend because Faith had told her that she was more interested in girls than boys. Turns out that Buffy just didn’t trust her. As Buffy’s Watcher droned on about the threat to the Hellmouth and why they needed Faith’s help, Faith ignored him. Instead she watched Buffy’s every move, taking in the changes in her former friend.
