Summary: Faith does the right thing for once.

The dull edge of the knife sinks into her flesh, yet Faith resists the urge to scream out in pain. She refuses to the give the vamp that’s torturing her that type of satisfaction. Somehow she had found the strength to go against the Mayor’s order and this is her payment now. It doesn’t matter that Buffy won’t ever know that Faith found redemption and that she’s been punished for it.

All that matters is that Faith knows what she did and that she did the right thing after doing the wrong thing for so long. Instead of torturing the demon that had the knowledge that the Mayor had wanted, she had gone to him and told him that he had to get out of Sunnydale since his life was in danger. At first, he had refused to believe her but something had convinced him. He had given her the book she had come for and she had escorted him to the bus station. Instead of turning the book over to the Mayor like a good little minion, Faith had left it in Buffy’s mailbox. Then she had turned herself in. She was tired of running.

The vamp growled as she refused to scream when he poured vinegar into the open wound. She gasped but she bites her raw lip to keep from screaming out. Faith closes her eye and sinks into her favourite memory of Buffy, one that’s surprisingly not sexual in nature. It’s one where the two of them are talking about being Slayers and how it feels to have the weight of the world on their shoulders. It was in that moment that they bonded and Faith knew she was falling in love with Buffy.

When the vamp cuts at her again, Faith doesn’t even feel the pain. Instead there’s a small smile of contentment on her face as she thinks about her girl and how in the end she didn’t fail her.
