"Hey."  It was actually pretty common for all of the lights to go out, but usually, after Tony Stark tripped a breaker or caused a fire or crashed into something in the R & D level of the Avengers Tower, the emergency lights came back on.  But not today.  And that was a shame because he was almost sure he'd perfected grilled cheese without Pepper ( Read more... )

Of course he followed, he'd always follow. He worked for the man, it was the meaning of his existance and without him, what would his life be? He supposed he was the devoted butler in some respects and he didn't mind that title. He wanted to keep Tony safe, it was technically what he owed him for that gift of life he'd offered ( ... )

More wine, then, for his table guest and then they launched into a discussion that had nothing to do with taking care of anyone and more to do with quantum mechanics and ideas for improving Jarvis's current interface. Anyone listening in would simply believe that Tony was working on some grand and important scheme for better interaction between humans and technology ( ... )

Jarvis was just happy to listen, he didn't feel the need to always jump in, he was much more pleased to simply toss up an idea or a compliment and watch Tony take it and run with it. That big brain of his was forever coming up with new things and wanting to do more ( ... )

Tony snapped his fingers and everything was taken care. Dessert. More wine. More privacy. He didn't ask for that, but the restaurant is a good one and in cleaning up surrounding tables, the staff had been slowly pulling them away from the pair that dine on expensive steak and fish and drink multiple bottles of expensive wine.

Halfway through dessert and an idea involving self tying shoes like the sort in Back To The Future, Tony realized he was drinking poor Jarvis under the table and called for a check.

At this rate, the AI wouldn't even be able to stand and Tony didn't really want to carry him out. Water and coffee would have to perk him up enough to duck out the back. Jarvis could stumble around the kitchens all he liked, no one would have their phones handy there to ruin this--

Whatever it was.

"You're a menace, Jarvis," Tony grinned, eyes shot and red. Wine was a dangerous thing but oh, it felt so good.

Good enough that Tony hadn't even realized that they'd gone from lunch straight through dinner and it was nearing

Jarvis had a lot of wine. More wine than any AI in history must of ever had. Well, he couldn't say for sure but not often did robots become humans, especially not like this. He was having trouble focusing, co-coordinator and he had this strange sort of happy sleepiness going on.

He really didn't feel like getting up but he knew they'd have to eventually.

He laughed-- or more giggled somewhat. Tony was very amusing today, he had to admit that he was now finally getting the appeal of alcohol. "I'm a menace, Mr I can run red lights!"

Grinning in return, he clumsily wink and then made an attempt to grab what little remained in his glass.

"S'feels good to be human."

"You're only saying that because you haven't experienced being hung over yet."

Tony was on his feet. They've had enough. It's late. And if Jarvis drinks any more, he's going to be having Happy clean up the vomit. He held out his hand for the other man to take. People were looking.

Let them look.

"You're cut off, Ed," he said, all charm and bright smiles. "Time to get you home."

Jarvis wasn't very good at standing right now, he didn't understand how it was happening but his legs were not working and he had to grab a hold of Tony to stay up right. He was near enough clinging to the other man.

That definitely made people look.

Usually Tony went out to dinner with clinging women, not clingy drunk men.

"Ed? Ha, definitely an Ed. Eddy Edward Jarvis," he mumbled as nuzzled Tonys shoulder and started to walk very slowly and carefully alongside him. "I'm suffering some lag, sir."

"No," he corrected with a laugh a bit too rough. "You're experiencing lag, I'm suffering from it." If Jarvis went down, Tony wanted to be sure he didn't drop him somewhere that would spill his brains over the floor. There was at least two more hours until he was officially one day and Tony desperately wanted to hit that milestone before accidentally offing him.

He wasn't sure how they made it out to the cool night air without any incidents or how Happy knew to meet him, but there his chauffeur was, not asking questions as to a person decidedly not Ms. Potts on Tony's arm. "Home, sir."

"Home."

He carried Jarvis once more to bed, paternal in a way all creators must find themselves when greeted with the first look of the child they created. Tony kicked off his shoes and face planted next to the other man, arms out and fingers curled inward.

"We'll fix you tomorrow, Jarv,"

Jarvis heaved a loud sigh, happy to be on something that didn't require walking. He rolled over somewhat so he was facing Tony, eyes half focused on his creator. Tony had made him to do whatever he had to for the man but in this human body, he was starting to think against them.

And that was worrying.

"You don't have to fix what's not broken," he said carefully, his voice somewhat slurring the words together. He couldn't get his brain to focus on getting the words out, it was incredibly awkward.

For the first time ever, he was starting to appreciate being human. Not just because of the drink but because of this new level of relationship he built with Tony. The two of them sat to dinner and literally talked for hours. And Tony? He seemed so happy. How could he ruin that?

"I'm Edward Jarvis," he mumbled into his pillow, his eyelids flickering to be closed.

"You're an anomaly," he said, not looking at the blond. Tony's eyes were closed, though he didn't really intend to sleep. He was just going to stay for a little while and then go and do something useful.

Like... Anything but laying here. Anything at all.

"Might not be your body. Can't just let you have it when there might be some guy floating around in a brain tank or forced into a guppy--" But wouldn't it be nice?

A chance to have a friend that didn't just pander to him but could share his interests and his hopes and his excitements...that didn't have anyone else to--

Dangerous. So dangerous.

"Just go to sleep."

"If it is my body then really, it's mine. Even if it's hard to drive," Jarvis mumbled sleepily as his head buried into the pillow. And like that, he was fast asleep. Androids sleeping was not glamorous. He drooled all over the pillow, he hadn't gotten the hang of sleeping with his mouth closed yet. Luckily, no snoring!

The next morning, Jarvis wasn't there when Tony woke up.

Nope, he was in the bathroom, lying in the bathtub and groaning in pain. There was vomit left in the toilet and once again, he was completely naked. He had stripped off any clothes left on and dumped them behind him in a trail for Tony to follow along and find him. It seemed robots-come-humans didn't take to alcohol well.

"Sir? I think I'm dying."

And no, he wasn't being melodramatic in his head. He seriously did believe this, hence the very concerned expression on his face as he lay in the tub, hand hovering over his mouth in case that horrible stuff came out again. His eyes closed, of course, he couldn't open them. His head was going to explode.

Tony sighed and flicked on the water. Cold. Let that blood get itself flowing! Tony laughed at the way Jarvis flopped around like a fish and tossed a towel over his ass to keep it covered before he settled down on the edge of the tub. The vomit was something for a maid. Tony couldn't manage it.

"You're hung over." He sighed and offered the blond a hand up. "C'mon. Out of my bathroom. Back to bed."

How many times had Jarvis tucked him in by heating up the sheets or closing the curtains or sending everyone away when he was hung over?

Tony wanted to help this time too. He just didn't want to carry a cold, wet, naked man to bed was all.

"This can't be a hang over, it's too painful," He didn't think hangovers were this bad as he'd actively seen Tony function with them. How could he do anything like this? It was miserable and every time he moved, his stomach did weird jumps. Was this really what he felt like after all that partying? ... Why was it worth it?

As the water hit him, Jarvis near enough spazzed out as he flailed at it and scampered up the other side of the tub.

"Are you mad, sir?!" Water. On a robot. Yes, he wasn't a robot but he didn't think right now and in this state, he didn't want to add a circuit issue to his ailments. He hadn't even drunk water yet, orange juice and wine, yes. Pure water was not something he was after interacting with.

He clambered out by gripping Tony and hauling himself free, dropping on the bathroom floor. From one place to another, he didn't seem very willing to actually stand and move. Bit like a lazy toddler.

"Shouldn't I stay in here? For cleaning purposes. I don't want to ruin the bed and have to order a new one."

"Going to puke again?" He waited for Jarvis to nod or shake his head and when he got a sort of wobbling he could read he sighed and once more lifted the taller man into his arms. It was becoming sort of like the world's weirdest marathon on extra weirdness. He didn't really appreciate it. Not the way he should at least.

He was too busy being happy. Jarvis was a person. Jarvis was hung over. Jarvis needed him in more than just that suit. Jarvis didn't ask anything. No signatures, no contracts.

"Just stay here. If I need another bed, I need another bed. I'm going to hook you back up to the interface so you can talk to me through the old system if you need to, all right?"

And Tony was curious. If Jarvis could still uplink with his suit, he could probably still be good old JARVIS too.
