Thanks for the rec. I read this ages ago and it was great to come back to it - definitely one that stands up to repeated readings.

Glad you like it! I usually avoid fic that deals with non-con, but this was recced to me by a trusted source and definitely stands up to repeated readings. It deals with everything so well and really captures the characters - allowing Sam to be hurt without her being a weak, traumatized victim.

Oh, yes. Another one you've stolen from my list! Heartbreaking and beautifully teamy and Janet and Sam and... ::whimpers:: I have it on my hd as "Inevitable for Sam." Such a powerful story.

Eh, it's only fair. I don't know how many times I've thought of a story to rec only to realize I found it because you'd recced it :)

But yes, wonderful team and wonderful Sam and Janet and just powerfully well done way of dealing with such difficult subject material.

This story literally haunts me...the word choice, the interactions, the pieces teand doesn't tell and leaves to the terrifying of the imagination...brilliant work that, I agree, holds up over REPEATED readings.

Yep - it's not very long but it just punches you hard with the pain and the rightness of the character's reactions - every interaction is so spot on and detailed in the empty spaces.

YES! That is the perfect wording to describe my response to this story as well. Everything that is said, everything unsaid, every hint, every frozen moment of cautious planning of wording, everyone's tight control, every physical detail and movement, every sound, from the creak of the chair to the shushing of the hand on the blanket, everything is wrenching in its caution and simplicity and, as you said, pain. Every time I read it, I find that the pain emmanating from Sam, from Janet, from the guys (with all the pieces left unsaid but their guilt) is utterly stark and right and heartbreaking.

When I wrote with feedback once, teand pointed out that "the word 'inevitable'" moment at the end with Janet also reflects back that Janet has a daughter and so sexual assault and violence being inevitable reflects onto society in general so hopelessly and helplessly.

Just brilliant work.
