That's a very groovy mutation.

It's been a good weekend. Yesterday I took a mini-road trip to Roanoke with a few people to chill at a friend's house. We spent the day running around the farmer's market, befriending soapmakers and retired archaeologists, learning to use a spinning wheel to make yarn, playing with a hyperactive standard poodle, and generally enjoying a very ( Read more... )

NASA. Holy shit, you are so much smart than I will ever be or was! Haha. That's awesome.

I wish that First Class could have been a series in some ways too! I LOVED those main actors, everyone did such an amazing job- but a lot of the story felt rushed, or like you said, the side characters such filler. I wanted MOAR.

Also, have to say I have never noticed Fassbender's teeth, I'm kind of afraid to do so now...

ALSO ALSO: Roanoke! Isn't that where the town disappeared in tilde olden times tilde?

Sadly I won't actually be doing rocket science, haha. It's an internship with the history department, so it'll mostly be going through archives and answering questions for journalists and doing some writing and research. But still! Freakin' NASA!

Different Roanoke, actually! This one's in the mountains, whereas the Lost Colony was an island off the coast of North Carolina. (I'd love to go there too -- yay, strange history.)

Ooo NASA. That sounds pretty epic. Best of luck there. And professional writing is something you can probably legit point to in all the interviews and say LOOK I CAN DEFINITELY WRITE, I'VE GOT A DEGREE IN IT AND EVERYTHING, OKAY?

And the other bits: XMFC! Raven was one of my favorites as well with her super awkward crushes and fantastic style. Erik and Charles, well I adore them. Especially when they're being bffs. I REALLY JUST KIND OF WANTED ALL OF THEM TO BE ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY FOR A WHILE. STUPID PLOT.

On a technical note, my favorite part of the movie was that the person occupying the traditional hero's role was Erik who becomes the big bad later. It's an awesome writing job. And that scene in the bar in Argentina is the best two minute sequence I've seen in film in a long ass time.

(And you mentioned it but I did have the 'Fassbender, you are very handsome and you should smi--oh god please stop smiling' moments.)

I'm pretty psyched about the NASA thing. Of course I have to, y'know, actually fill out the application, and there's the little matter of securing some kind of funding so I can at least break even on the cost 'cuz I'd have to find a place to stay in DC. But it has the potential to be terribly cool, and I figure why not?

Oh X-Men. I consoled myself over the loss of the happy mutant family dynamic with the certainty that there is tons of fic to make up for it. Charles and Erik are wonderful together when they're being BFFs. I love it. You're right about Erik, too -- interesting bit of writing there, and very effective.

If you do get the NASA thing in DC, give me a shout. I'm not sure if I'm going to be there or Richmond for the summer but if I'm in NOVA, I know my folks have a spare bedroom and while we're not in the city, between buses and metro, you can get there.

I would have watched an entire series just about the time in the training montage. Or the epic mutant collection roadtrip. Or, let's be real, I would also watch Erik killing nazis. But yes, there is lots of fic. That fandom has basically gone boom. It's marvelous.

Will do. For the record, you're the greatest.

I want all of the above. The mutant collection road trip especially. If you stumble across any particularly good fic or communities, feel free to rec them.
