Quite alive, actually. I've gotten into the bad habit of tag-blogging over on Tumblr and remembered that there are slightly better venues for rambling personal thoughts over on this part of the internet.

Anyway, a few things I've been up to lately, if you were wondering where I'd gone.

Still slogging through finals over here. It's been a good weekend. Yesterday I took a mini-road trip to Roanoke with a few people to chill at a friend's house. I'm not a huge fan of horror movies: aestheticized violence I have no problem with, but as soon as it crosses the line to actual body horror I am no longer cool with it. I don't usually do movie writeups, but when I do, I prefer absurd action flicks. With a title like that, nothing in the universe could have stopped me from seeing this movie. I mean, c'mon. This is me we're talking about.

My cousin Fabian is visiting us from Germany, and these last few days have been an exercise in linguistics and creative thinking as we 1) attempt to find interesting things to do around here and 2) attempt to find ways of communicating, period. I went to Iron Man 2 last night, and I have to say that it was the most thoroughly enjoyable movie I've seen all year. Granted, I'm the same person who wrote a ten-page research paper on sci-fi's influence on real-world technology after seeing the first movie a few years ago, so perhaps I'm biased, but really. Avatar: Ferngully/Pochahontas/Atlantis the Lost Empire/Dances With Wolves in space, starring blue furries and apparently some racefail. Seeing it in 3D was definitely worth it, and I would have killed to be part of the design team -- absolutely gorgeous creature/environment design, and I'd love to see the concept art. Went to see Watchmen tonight with a bunch of friends. I now feel like I need to scrub my brain a bit with a mild bleach solution.

Note to self: Just because you're now actually old enough to see R-rated movies unaccompanied, it doesn't mean they're actually worth seeing.
