On Having a Future

So... I haven't posted in MONTHS. And I feel bad for it, because I still log in every day to read my comics and catch up with the few people who do still regularly post. I would blame it on having a busy semester, but really... I would have had time to write if I wanted to ( Read more... )

Georgetown is a good program, as is UCSB. I think that Pitt is pretty good, but I think that UCSB would be a better fit actually. There are a lot of good people there who do fieldwork and you would find it to be an amicable atmosphere (I've had lunch with grad students from there before). Santa Barbara is sort of a sleepy town, but it's warm and you'll still be in California with your hubby.

Then again, if you get into Georgetown, that might be good, depending on your interests (if socio, then yes). You ARE still interested in fieldwork? If so, UCSB is better.

My interests are mostly with Socio, so that's why Georgetown is my top choice. UCSB would be a great program for me to be in, but Santa Barbara is the least likely of the places I've applied that Aaron would want to move to, so that's a factor as well...

As it stands, I'm excited to know that I'm a strong enough candidate to get into a competitive program, hoping that will translate to more acceptances later when the rest of the programs decide. We shall see...

If they respnded that quickly and actually called rather than just sending a letter they must really want you. That's got to be a good sign for your prospects at other universities.

That's what I'm hoping. 3 of the 4 programs I applied to are very competitive, and the advisors at those 3 schools all know each other very well. What I'm really hoping is that they talk about their applicants, and compare notes, and maybe the other two people will be like "well, hmm... We want him too!"

And then there's Pittsburgh, which is less competitive (mostly because its a little less prestigious, I think), and I am just hoping that my trip out there combined with my application will be strong enough to get me accepted there. :)
