I think about stuff

Okay, lots of stuff to cover and get through and all of that.

First, the other day I cam across this cool blog/site called Best Fantasy Books.com. Another site had a link to this post about ARCs and reviews that I thought was really interesting.

Most of my thoughts on the subject are covered in my comment, which is the fifth comment down:

I ( Read more... )

totally losing touch with reality, publishing, of interest to me, wasting time, moral outrage, craziness, ghost bound, violence, childishness, writing thoughts, blah!, grumpyass, agents, nobody said life is fair, the downside books, rodents of unusual size, rantypants, insensitivity

Hi Stacia,

I am one of those unagented masses. : ) But it wasn't always so. I think the majority of agents are simply overworked individuals that love books and everything having to do with books. Like in any industry, you get those who aren't quite professional or perhaps inexperienced. I have had experience with one of those personally and through a close friend.

However, the anger and frustration in the comments on Bookend's blog took me by surprise and unfortunately, I don't think it will be the agents who need to hear it who will read it.

And I totally agree. Agents do the best they can, you know? I seriously doubt the vast majority of them spend all their time thinking of ways to humiliate and treat badly as many writers as they possibly can. And I agree too that the ones who are guilty of such things aren't going to be reading, sigh.

Nothing wrong with being unagented. :-) I hope I didn't sound like I think there is?

No, you didn't sound like that at all. We all start out unagented. : ) I will be looking for another agent this summer as soon as I have something worth offering. BTW, I love your blog and learned quite a bit from your sex-writing strumpet series of posts.

It's scary, isn't it? I just don't get the entitlement, I really don't.

Not here to lynch you ;-) As always, you explained things quite well. (It's funny, I blogged about this as well, at right around the same time, but you said it with much more eloquence than I could muster.) Anyway, you hit the nail on the head with the anger. It's a shame, it really is.

As for the move, best of luck, I hope it all goes smoothly.

I think your post was great! :-) And coming from your POV it's even more useful/valuable than mine.

Thanks!

Exactly. YES.

And what gets me, as I've said elsewhere, is if the agents in question weren't blogging or Twittering, there would be complaints about their LACK of online presence and how dare they not have a blog or website or whatever, you know?

Everybody thinks they deserve something. Nobody wants to work for it. UGH.
