Don't Diss Dillinger

Aug 11, 2009 00:43

I didn't think I'd get so....upset? at someone insulting John Dillinger, but I did. Went to Applebee's for my b-day dinner with mom, Carly, and David and I don't even know how the conversation came around to Johnnie. First off, Carly and David made it clear they think he's ugly. Okay. Whatever. I can handle that; some appearances don't appeal to ( Read more... )

I agree...so much. While I'm not an expert on Dillinger, I do know a bit about him, have read various books and stuff about him...and yeah, he's a hero to me. Whenever I hear some call him a villain, I explain to them that No, he wasn't a bad guy, he never liked to shoot people, he never harmed a woman in his life, and he was merely a smart man who didn't like the system...

Good for you for defending him as well as you did. I would have been right there with you, probably brandishing a fork and knife around to emphasize our point. XD

He is so far from being a villain. I don't see how people can make him out to be. It would've been great having someone else back me up on the defense. :) We could've put on the smack down! haha

I had a similar argument with someone at work. I just don't see Dillinger as a bad guy. Yes, he was robbing banks and all that, but I dunno, the punishments did not fit the crimes. If anything it's the legal system's fault for turning him into the legendary bank robber he would become.
And the way he died...god, that was just wrong. Just wrong. It makes me so sad and so few people get why. They're all like "he got what he deserved". Bullshit. That wasn't right.

We need more Dillinger sympathizers out there!
The articles sound awesome, if you do put any up, send me a link. :)

Yeah, Dillinger was all painted up by the media to be a bad guy, but it's not that black and white, and the one time he did shoot that cop, it tore him up inside, poor baby... he needs huggles.

As for the slash, I like it personally, considering I came up with that pairing name...
I wouldn't judge the fans of that too harshly, as you've written some PRETTY scary stuff yourself. It's great, but it is quite terrifying.

And I guess it hasn't even been proven that his bullet was the fatal shot. So he could've been completely clean of any murder. Baby Face Nelson and Clyde Barrow were the real 'bad guys' of that year.

First off, thanks for the compliment on my stuff. I don't think I'm judging them harshly or anything. People will like what they like and have their own tastes. For me, it's not a taste/pairing I'm fond of or support. And it's not like I think it's SCARY or anything, just disrespectful in my opinion. And that's my opinion; I know others won't share that view or agree with it, but that's fine. There's plenty of hot man lovin' out there for everyone to choose from.

Yes... indeed there is. That's why we have the internet. Gooood stuff.

I suppose it's the same with those people who pair up brothers and the like, it's not something I like, but it's how other people roll, so we gotta just move on.

I only support them in movie-verse though, Dillinger and Purvis, real life would be way too weird. Iguess that's why it doesn't bother me, because it's a fictional depiction of them and we're not basing it off of the real people, just the movie versions of them.

Everyone has their own squicks. Incest is one of those for me too.

For me, I couldn't even see any connection between them in the movie, so that's even more of a reason why I'm against it. I think the big reason for me is that they are both deceased and it seems like a desecration on their grave to "play" with them in situations that could and never would be possible. I'm not trying to be preachy like some may think, and I don't think I am. I'm just putting my opinion out there in my own journal, nonetheless, and it's not like I singled anyone out.

Well I agree that he was wrongly sentenced atleast that his sentence was too harsh. However the man was a criminal and I have no sympathies for people who commit crimes. I agree with your mother though you should not make him into a hero. He was a petty thief who stole and made money on the backs on honest people, I pity him being driven to this hard life and knowing the conditions of his time many people were driven to crime. However I still can not condone his actions as a bankrobber or any other criminal ( ... )
