I didn't think I'd get so....upset? at someone insulting John Dillinger, but I did. Went to Applebee's for my b-day dinner with mom, Carly, and David and I don't even know how the conversation came around to Johnnie. First off, Carly and David made it clear they think he's ugly. Well I agree that he was wrongly sentenced atleast that his sentence was too harsh. However the man was a criminal and I have no sympathies for people who commit crimes. I agree with your mother though you should not make him into a hero. He was a petty thief who stole and made money on the backs on honest people, I pity him being driven to this hard life and knowing the conditions of his time many people were driven to crime. However I still can not condone his actions as a bankrobber or any other criminal.
There are few rare conditions that I can condone crime. For instance in Communist countries like China where crime is the only way for anyone to make money many times or as a resistance of a corrupt regime.
Next on your idea of slash of him being disrespectful. Bah people insert historical characters in their fictions regardless of whether it is 100% factual to the character. For instance Elizabeth Bathory is a frequent character in my writings. Point in fact in my Jumpstreet fanfiction Booker and his sister the villainess Radon/Narcissa Booker are direct descendants of her.
If my facts and opinions on Dillinger are wrong then by all means please tell me and correct me. However I like Bonnie and Clyde, point in fact the movie about them is one of my favorites regardless of it being grossly historically accurate. I also have a respect for them and what they went through. This does not mean however that I condone their actions or laud their behavior.
