Finally finished the hand sewn eyelets on my simple early Tudor kirtle. About seven of them. About frickin time! Yeah, it took CoCo coming up this week to motivate me. ... all the pieces are now sewn along all edges. I started piecing them together, but I think I am making the seam too tight together, as it has a ridge, the seam looks more like a satin stitch, and having looked at the pics on the Elizabethan Seam, I know I am sewing it wrong ( Read more... )

I am surprised at myself. I actually was able to cut out, serge finish, and put together all of the panels to my kirtle skirt... in one day. I don't get that much time usually. But then, it is unlined, and I did get up a little before the kids did this morning, and the serging and sewing went pretty quickly with minimal pinning ( Read more... )

Minor progress. Just the straps were sewn. But I did trace the skirt pattern pieces for my size and length. I will cut that tomorrow afternoon, and hopefully sew the side back pieces, too.

So far done... the back piece, and both front pieces of the kirtle. Tomorrow the side-back pieces and the straps! I must get that skirt cut out, too. I will have to shorten it a bit, since I want it around low calf length ( Read more... )

So, even knowing I was short on time, my mind still had to hem and haw and mentally figure out what would be best for me to do on making my kirtle. Simple pattern, but mind *has* to make it harder than it really is. I thankfully have a whole older simple outfit, that while a bit small, will work for this weekend, so I am really in no major rush. Last night, I went over to hsifeng's place, and she helped me get started on fitting my new Uniquely You dress dummy cover (with great thanks, my dear). In return, I brought over a book and journals for her to look over, and I will do the same for her when/if she gets a dress dummy (or wants a taping). I took apart the pieces from the MA-HCP Ladies Wardrobe (picked up at CC26), and organized them into appropriate bundles (bodice, doublet, picadills, skirts, sleeves, and underskirt). I need to find my label maker and mark up the bags before I put those bundles away.
