Period (medieval) sewing kit reproduction here. Let me recommend to you http://www.hedgehoghandworks.com/catalog/TL000017.shtml - they also have it in light wood. I use this for making eyelets, and it is fabulous.

I have one of those, and I dislike mine. It is too fat to be as effective as my metal one is, which wasn't what I was expecting.

Take a look at the Moroni painting of the tailor:http://realmofvenus.renaissanceitaly.net/wardrobe/men/MoroniTheTailor.jpg and these professional tailor's shears: http://www.whiteley.co.uk/catalogue/index.htm and you'll see that the tool hasn't really changed in 400 years.

If you're left handed, you've got a problem. I've been searching for over 20 years and the only left-handed option I've found are custom made, for 600 Euros.

I have my mom's old tailors sheers that I might use, as they look like those (hers are Weiss I think). I was pondering on getting something that "looked" more old fashioned as a useable prop, if I can find one that works well enough.

Oh wow! Those look like the ones in the medieval illuminations. I bet they would cut through wool cloth nicely, and they aren't too expensive to give a try. Thanks!

The only reason I thought of it, is because a friend has some she picked up at a swap meet and I saw them in her garage just the other day. :)
