Sounds like a great idea. Feel free to ask for ideas - I was running the Tudor Tailor Shop last year at Kentwell and was using all Ninya's kit.
One point though, there aren't any dress forms as we think of them in the tudor perood. Though would this be a problem if you are not absolutely needing to be authentic?
Oh wonderful! Thank you. I may end up gabbing your ear on this idea at Costume College.
And I didn't think there was period dress forms then, as I hadn't seen any. But I do not have to be fully authentic. I think in fact that I will end up being more authentic than many at faires, even with the dress form, so for sake of education, I think it can be overlooked a bit.
I just thought of a question... is there a good book or articles you know of that describes what an English tailor did exactly, and/or what their shop would entail? What I've read so far is bits and snippets from books like Arnold's QEWU or the info in Dress in the Court of Henry VIII.
That is a fabulous idea and has so much potential. Just think, you can have satisfying gigs and get lots of educational stuff out there. If I ever visit any of the faires at which you trot this out, I'll be your apprentice and you can yell at me for doing the seam all wrong, and do it again, you lazy apprentice, and what do I feed you for?, and, and.... My brain reels at the possibilities, and how nice it would be to have a mostly-sitting-on-your-can type gig. Brilliant!
Thank you. I am getting too out of shape to hoof it in the streets all the time (leave that to the younger folk with lots of energy to burn). And while I may start this on a local level, should I get to traveling more again to faires north and south, I shall let you know so we can have fun with this gig. :-)
