I view it as the gap in American education making a public spectacle of itself. I don't think these people understand the historical context of the Boston Tea Party, much less how it compares (and doesn't) to our current political situation.
I'm pretty much with Guav on this one. They thing they're being clever, but mostly they're exposing their own ignorance.
Guav is pretty awesome, as evidenced by the number of people who follow him, even though he got married and doesn't do as much political writing now. I highly recommend some of his other writings. :)
On top of which, if you just google "tea bagging", you'll find out that they're pretty ignorant of American slang expressions, as well. Rachel Madow had a few reports on this where she could barely keep a straight face.
Forget the politics, go straight to the juvenile humor. At least for me, this time. ;)
