Almost, but not quite

Looking at online stores for larger beauties, I've found a store that I almost like. I say almost, because in my world nothing is ever perfect. ( Read more... )

Thanks for sharing your experiences, and for the links. I will check them out. I also would rather spend my money making my clothes at this point.

Yeah, what is up with spandex in everything?!! I hate it, too. And 2 or 4 way stretch in clothes that are designed to not need stretch anywhere! Makes me crazy. And all that spandex is found in regular fabrics for making ones clothes, where it is harder and harder to find denim or wool without it, and I don't like it at all.

I'm noticing that a lot of 'fashion designers' are pretty much just using maternity shapes for plus size ideas. That's not only insulting, it's downright depressing. If I wanted to keep wearing the same type of clothing I wore when I was pregnant, I'd have kept all my maternity clothes. I swear, one of these days I'll finally be fed up enough with all the crap they sell and just start making my own clothes, and never look back.

Yeah, very insulting, especially when I was pregnant, there were NO stores locally that carried real plus size maternity clothing, so I had to wear really big elastic waist pants for my tummy, and rather large shirts. I have one of each, to remind me of where I once was, as that's the biggest I ever got in weight.

And I am at that point, and I'm getting ideas on what I really want to make and wear. I just need to sit down and sketch them out over a photo of my own body (that's the part I am dreading).

Right now I can get away with not being at that point, due to not really leaving the house much, and when I do 75% of that is when I'm wearing 16th c stuff anyway.

What's holding me back from (modern) clothes is the lack of modern sewing skills - course, I could fudge quite a lot and call them design choices (I *hate* zippers!), but the rest is largely laziness and fabric issues. OK, mostly laziness.

I'm not fond of zippers, either. I just figure I will have to learn modern sewing techniques, or apply the period ones I've learned.
