Thank you for this link. I've been up later reading articles, and finding pics of interest.

I dont mind being a little behind, as I am not up for being trendy. Just looking for ideas of interest to me.

I am trying to figure out what style works best for me, and part of me wants classic, and part of me wants theatrical/bohemian. I used to be romantic/girly girl when I was younger. Wonder if I can marry the two.

I've been pondering the same thing, and while I was never into floofy/ruffles, I've always preferred skirts and dresses to pants.

My most loved item of clothing right now is a gored linen skirt I made. It's elastic waist, as simple as can be, but it feels GOOD, and I like the way it looks. Almost all of my current patterns are for skirts. I think I see a trend here, and I'm leaning toward long, twirly skirts, simple peasant-type blouses, and a few spiffy embroidered handbags. I don't work outside the home, so I don't need structured clothing, suits, high heels..I rarely see anything I like in the stores, but hey, isn't that why we learned to sew?

And my favorites shoes (alas, worn out now) were loafers with beaded toes.

I normally wear pants, because I refuse to shave my legs, and figure that will least annoy others. I can also sit on the floor with the kids easy enough in them.

But long skirts has been tempting me, too. For every day, and your simple linen gored skirt sounds, well comfortable, and that I like. I am at home, so I don't need a business suit, although I want to eventually make a nice jacket for those times I need a good jacket/look suit-ish.

Thanks.

Dita Von Teese. I wish I had her income and stylist.

I had to google her, as I hadn't heard the name before. My guy friend knew her name. Ok. I can understand. Very starlet early 20th century it seems. Nice and classical.

I had a friend some years ago (we belonged to the Camarilla, a larp org), who went in a similar direction professionally. But looking her up under her stage name, I see that her style has changed quite a bit. More goth punk than the classic styles I remember her doing.

I really don't pay attention: I can't afford to chase the style fairies and so I just turned off that part of my brain awhile ago. If I have a "style", I guess that it is something like this - I get skirts and pants in dark colors that I like the cut of (that I find flattering). I pair them with similarly colored shoes (that I think are cute) and then try to find tops that give some sort of color/cut/texture contrast in a range that I find either "interesting" or "flattering ( ... )

I turned it off so long ago, I don't know how to restart it. I am looking for ideas, not modern fashion diva/trendy now ideas, but ideas to incorporate parts of in my wholesale restructuring of my wardrobe. I say wholesale, because most of my side of the closet is empty, except for some linen shirts that are too big, but I want to remake into something more fitted.

I've done some thrift stores in the past, and found it takes hours, which I can't do with little ones who get bored easily. But there are weekends, when Rob can deal with them. Have you done much in consignment shops? Since we are in the same town, any preferred thrift stores you like over others?

There is a nice grouping of shops on VanNess downtown. AmVet's is nice, but pricier than most shops. There is a consignment shop over near Fresno City College - where the old College Pharmacy used to be. It is pretty nice, not cheap, but good clothes and lost of selection.
