Read a letter to the editor in my local newspaper, and the following number caught my eye.

$70,000.00

Starting salary with PG&E. I found the original article they were writing about. Seems they have a program at our local *community college* to help people take their entry test, with starting salaries at the number above. Here's the full article that ( Read more... )

I knew a guy who worked for PG&E, back in the late 1980's. He was a jackhammer operator, and his typical day was well over 8 hours. He also suffered from serious back pain, whitefinger, and "muscle bound"-ness. He'd traded his health for his job. I did not envy him his high pay.

I'm sure that some job at PG&E starts at 70k, but how many are going to qualify for it?
