Say what??

Read a letter to the editor in my local newspaper, and the following number caught my eye.

$70,000.00

Starting salary with PG&E. I found the original article they were writing about. Seems they have a program at our local *community college* to help people take their entry test, with starting salaries at the number above. Here's the full article that I don't think you need to sign in to view.

And to think when I went to college (early to mid 90s), to get a degree in Accounting, the starting salary at a Big 6 firm (now what, Big 2 or 3?) was only $25,000, with lots of overtime expected during tax season. And I would have to move to LA or San Jose with their higher cost of living. If good money was the reason to work for a company, that's a great number to start at. Mind boggling, really, since they hint that a college degree isn't really required, just the ability to pass their basic math tests. I am sure there is more to it than that, much more, and that the work is probably quite demanding, but the article does not go into the details.

And like the letter to the editor said... no wonder our PG&E bills are so high, if that's the starting salary for a non-College degreed position. So, maybe my friends who are in need of a good paying job might want to check out openings at PG&E. And if this number is way off base from actuality of education required, I would like to be told.
