Faire & SCA: My current thoughts...

Jan 03, 2009 18:25

I am finding myself rather amused and happy with the conversations currently going on with the CIRGA list (not just for GMs). What I have yet to figure out in my own interests... is just how interested and involved I want to be with faire this year. ( faire stuff under this cut. )

Just in case you need an extra resource, if events aren't on the Kingdom calendar, you can always check the unofficial Caidan calendar on Google --> http://www.crescentwing.com/calendar_google.html

It's an "unofficial" production, but it's still as accurate as I can make it. If you use Google Calendar, you can click the link (picture and directions at top, link on bottom of calendar lower-right corner) and add them to your own Calendars. That way, all the updates show on your display, all the time.

The Kingdom Calendar deputy sends me information, plus I use the CP, and even add things based on some of the SCA email lists out there.

I know how you feel about Faire and it's "vision", "direction", or lack thereof. It seems to me that outside of court no-one in faire really knows what's going on, but court often expects everyone to know, and react accordingly.
In truth, the world ran (and still runs) on gossip. and with that many people in close proximity to each other the rumor mill would be going full blast. Unfortunately when you take into account the lack of communication, circulated information, or expectation for guilds not related to court to do nothing except bow it can be a little discouraging.
I've been reading the forwarded conversation from CIRGA and while I think that some of the suggestions and complaints are spot on, others just seem petty. It's frustrating.
Anyway, I read what you wrote and wholeheartedly agree, thought I should pass that on...

see you at Visalia (I hope)

Thank you for letting me know your thoughts. I hope we can get the various guilds that make up "court" to inform everyone else as time gets closer. Some of the best faires I've ever was involved with had everyone in every guild just about involved in the main "plots" somehow, and it not only was a blast for the actors, but the customers enjoyed themselves more because of all the interactions going on.
