"KIng Henry and Queen Anne are wearing ruffs in 1530 and latest command is that they want "stomachers" out of different fabric and the 'hourglass shape.' " ( venting behind this cut... )
Where on earth is this happening? Egads!! I know very little about the ins and outs of historical costuming (I've always depended upon Brooke and Kat's judgments), but even *i* know that's wayyyyy off! And as a promoter, I understand wanting to make things about faire easily digestible to the patron, but wildly going astray from the general look of an era is crossing a line.
I think I have a few photos of Brooke at SF Ren around. I'll scan and send to you.
This is a very small pic of Brooke at SF Ren Faire a few years ago. You can see she's wearing her first white brocade with foldback sleeves and a marian partlet.
Very nice, even if it is a small photo. I can see she's wearing a lovely gown with proper sleeves... and see, no ruffs in sight!!
To be honest, I do have one portrait that shows a woman in Tudor and ruffs, but that was to commemorate Elizabeth's coronation, and may have been a copy that had the ruff added in.

In Pennsylvania I think, at one of their large events (which name I don't remember).
There was a reason why Michael always banned ruffs, paned slops, and tall hats for Hanford, and I think the ROK rules still show that (but I haven't checked in a few years).
Last year the Hanford rules still had those bans on them. I haven't checked this year's. For the 1520 year of Hanford this year, we're trying to get as many of our women in gabled hoods as possible. Kat's charming and delicate rendition at Hanford finally sold us on the idea that we might not look hideous in them!
I need to get a live journal account so that I can read more blogs, but I have no fewer than four blogs on my TypePad Pro account, so I don't think I'll be keeping an LJ up anytime soon!
