Lunch...

...was not enough. It was a good salad with tuna, hardboiled eggs, green stuff & cheese, but my stomach is not happy. It is not full, and I don't know what will make it happy, other than carbs I am not allowed to eat yet. I will have my snack by midafternoon, as I don't think this food in my tummy will last long. tinsoldier and his wife used to have something called "Almond Blast" while they were doing Southbeach. You might consider that ( ... )

This Phase 1 is the toughest. No fruits at all, limited veges like those low on glycemic index, which means no carrots which are higher on that scale. Lots of salad, tho I do try to have more vegies than lettuce, and we use darker greens & spinach leaves, not regular lettuce. Also ok with 15 nuts a day, no more. Basically low-fat meats and most green vegies, with a tomato now and then (I'm so so with tomatoes). It's very tough at times to deal with (8 more days on Phase 1).

And the Almond Blast I googled looks good, although I may just use plain yogurt and a little milk instead of soy products. But it will have to wait till Phase 2, when fruits are allowed back in.

Don't take this wrong, any change in eating habits to improve ones body is good, but SBD has some 'different' ideas of what is and isn't allowed and why.

Having any limits on what kind of veggies one can eat do not understand veggies in how they work with the system.

One of the biggest pit falls of SBD is faulty issues with the glycemic index and how it compensates for the ratio and rate of blood sugar consumption/insulin production.

Btw, one of the places I've been hanging out lately and reading, taking different things from the site and applying them is here -http://healthletter.tufts.edu/

I am not getting anything other than abstracts from that site, at least in the back issued articles. I take it is a subscription site?

And since I am on this diet per my doctor's orders, I will continue with this diet plan as ordered.

What I have been doing is Veggies. I kid you not. Not salad. Though I like salad with dinner.

Veggies, lots of carrots, brocoli (if you don't get bad gas) califlower, cucumbers, tomatoes and mushrooms. I've started including grilled squash and zuccini too. Baby carrots are JUST amazing how full one can get from them. GREAT for that need the need to MUNCH. (which I do have that need)

The other thing I have been doing is making my own vingarettes for dipping and splashing across my veggies. At work I have a bowl of munchies with me. (And am very protective of them, folks like to steal my veggies).

I eat a lot of vegies, just no carrots (too high on glycemic index for the Phase 1 part) right now. I get them in Phase 2. I eat everything you list otherwise, plus spinach (yummy in eggs). The whole thing with carrots is that the sugars in them is what the diet is trying to avoid during the first two weeks, otherwise I would happily munch them as well.

And yeah, we've been doing homemade vinegrettes as well. Rob made an interesting one with olive oil, pepper, and garlic and something else this afternoon for our lunch. Very tasty, just... even with a little low fat cheese and lots of vegies, tuna, eggs... I just wasn't feeling properly full, although I was full enough I couldn't eat anymore. It's an odd feeling.

See, I cheated. I didn't do Phase 1. I knew that I'd never survive without nuts and veggies and fruit and ... I just started straight with Phase 2. In order to *not* feel like my throat was cut, I'd be eating 24/7 -- which sort of defeats the whole purpose of the diet ...

I found that high protein foods are what makes me feel full.

But phase 1 has nuts and vegies, just no fruit. I love the nuts, I just don't get to eat a whole lot of them, but it does help me keep full at snack time.

And the proteins in the meats, they are doing alright once I eat. It's the time right before I eat when I am getting funny feelings, until meal is ready again for me to eat.

Ah. Differences in South Beach and Atkins. I didn't think that there was that much difference. I didn't do Phase 1 Atkins. No fruits, nuts or veggies. :-P That I could do -- but I'd still miss my fruit!

I'm going to make a pot of tomato-juice based vegetable soup tomorrow, and try getting my veggies that way. I love soup, and I think the warm goodness will fill me up better.

There is a walnut salad I think I want to do for lunch. I am just not creative on the salad thing, but thankfully there are a number of salad recipes to try.
