On French hoods, and other hooded thoughts.

Just a quick post. I've found more images of French hoods, and other Tudor garments, in a great book on illuminated manuscripts, Illuminating the Renaissance: The Triumph of Flemish Manuscript Painting in Europe. I borrowed the book from Barbara, the lady we spent Sunday scribing with. She has some great books on illumination, and on costuming. I' ( Read more... )

Do you have your seminars in electronic format? Would you mind letting me look at them?

I don't have any seminars, yet. I have the Costume Myths, Busted workshop online, and all the French hood images. Working on other images as well, but that will take time over the winter.

Oh. I had found a lot of info, and only got to use some of it for my workshop. The rest of the info is on my computer somewhere, and I need to dredge it up and post it sometime.

Is that the *big* book from the Getty Museum that has the *large* color pic from the Genealogy of some portuguese prince (name escapes me at the moment) on the cover? Lady in a red overdress? I've *seen* it, but I don't have it ... yet. I have kept it checked out from the library for obscenely long periods of time, though.

Personally, I don't like the funky hats. I'm still not completely comfortable with "stuff on my head" of any sort ...

Yes, that very book. I want the book, and am very happy to have borrowed it for now. I promised to keep it in very good condition until it is returned back to its owner.

And I am not sure if I would like the funky hats either. French hoods are at least nice looking on a person. The Tudor gable, well, for theatrical reasons I will wear one.

I love that book; I scanned a bunch of stuff when I had it. I gotta get one.

I can nopt tell you HOW eagerly I anticipate those sacns!! I need a new hood (and partlet and kirdle and smock and "torture shift") for Kearney and I haven't stated ANY of it...that could be a blessing though if your hood images revolutionize the way I want to make mine.

I am hoping I have time to make all those extras as well for Kearney, at least the partlet, as well as finishing the gown and redoing the kirtle. I need to get moving on them.

And your hood looks closer to mine to what I saw, but I am not sure if your hood is a full closed cap in the back.

I am going to try and post some of the images today, so stay tuned.
