Well, the two books finally arrived. And of course they sent me the tracking info from their end today as well. They stated originally that the books were shipped on the 5th. Then their tracking info states it was shipped on the 7th. I don't know what to believe ( Read more... )

I'd like to see how the pens work.

I think I've mentioned that I don't care for the RapidoGraph pens. Among other things, the scratching on the paper drives me up the friggin' wall - it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. They may have fixed it, but dad's pens always made that horrid sound (and still do, as far as I know). I'm thinking, though, that the art pens couldn't be using the same idea for their ink feed.

Ok, I am a bad calligrapher. Bad in that I don't care for my Rotrings properly. I will negligently leave a cartridge in my Rotrings for years and years and-- when I pick up one of my pens and do some lettering, it performs perfectly again, like a champ.

I've had my set of Rotrings for, um, about 12 years, and I think I've only cleaned them twice.

At any rate, Rotrings are Very. Well. Made.

Not gainsaying that. My dad has had his RapidoGraphs for perhaps 50 years (he's 71 this year), and while he buys ink every once in a while, he doesn't buy new pens but rarely. Very rarely. I'm not sure I remember the last time he bought a new pen. He's still got the same ones I remember from when I was 6 or 8 (and that was 40 years ago). He hates ballpoints because they leave blots on the page, and they're not consistent, et cetera. And he uses the RGs for everything he has to write - has for decades.

Oh, and incidentally-- Rotrings come with the nib 'cut' straight across. There is no angle on the tip of the nib. One is expected to either wear it down from use or burnish it down with a stone ( ... )
