What a mad, fun, clever, wild ride! Not only is this packed with fun new magic tech, it's also tied beautifully to canon in so many subtle ways ("I'm going to make sure my notes are in order. Also fireproof, since it's the Finnegan twins in detention." ha!). Very satisfying to have the ceiling of the Great Hall explained, and in such a way that the link between its problems and the empty portrait makes sense ("The enchantment tying the ceiling to the weather outside was similar to the spell that bound two portraits' locations together.") Poor Portrait!Snape, condemned by Harry's foolishness to be such a sulky cross creature -- and poor real!Snape having to put up with him lol! QUANDARY is an awesome invention, and its manipulable three-dimensional map of the portrait network is the coolest thing ever (I want art of this!). I love all the tiny details about Snape's second portrait (it really is much more the sort of thing I think he'd be happy in), and the revelation that Snape is alive was perfectly timed for maximum YAY!

*squishes you silly* Thank you so very much, love! One of my first sshg exchange pieces was a portrait network story, and revisiting those networks with the help of supercomputers was SO MUCH FUN, especially integrating the Great Hall ceiling, which I'd never before thought might be part of it until the prompt got me thinking about its origins. The story also kept surprising me in other ways, too. Like, it was originally a much angstier idea that went into way more detail about Sev's origins, and Severus's appearance in Chicago was absolutely a surprise to me, but I knew immediately I had to keep it and rewrite the story around that appearance. And QUANDARY the name occurred to me long before I came up with what the acronym stood for :D
