in "everthing's nice" the main characters wave of cultural adjustment is an intense one. it was hard for her to distinguish how others were portraying her inside the family's home. the elderly lady shot faces and tones of voice from "firm" to "smilingly". once the main character walked into the house her cultural wave was that of high expectations

I like this story a lot. The main character does run away - her response to being overwhelmed. It's understandable, but yes, perhaps she could have dealth with her cultural situation in another way.
