[Jab!  Jab!  Straight!  Hook!  Now the same but in Southpaw stance!  Julia is really working herself up as has become sort of a thing as she goes through a routine of shadow boxing, but as an egg timer begins to buzz she suddenly stops!

[... And after a one minute break to cool down she is seen whipping out a small digital device that has a chess

[And there's Christine, watching Julia playing the new game she gave her. Admittedly, it WAS last minute, but with it being something to do with Boxing, she figured that Julia would enjoy it.]

[Julia winces a little. She'd forgotten about that pawn. Losing her queen to it was going to reaaaaaally suck in the long run. Still, when she hears Christine's voice she looks up and smiles!]

It's really fun! I never thought anyone could really combine two sports together, let alone so well, but it's a really genius blend!

[And then there's some beeping and booping from the chess set. Julia looks down, and winces again.]

... Checkmate in only ten moves?

I... really suck at this.

[She sounds less crestfallen about this than you'd think though.]

[Christine can't help but chuckle at Julia.] Don't worry - I don't think chess is my thing, either. Prefer checkers than anything.

Though, I'm glad you like it. Even if it is a late present.

[Without needing to worry about the game, Julia takes the time to move over and give Christine a kiss on the cheek. Nothing more though; she's kinda sweaty from her workout already and she doesn't want to make a mess of things.]

Hey, I told you this is okay. Nobody here is in a position to really blow a lot of money on birthday presents what with all the stuff that happens around here.

... Well, I guess Seymour's an exception.

Besides... it's got another use too.

That's the beauty of it! This isn't like a triathelon where training for one event helps you noticeably with the others; it's a sport that requires you to be well-rounded and capable in more than one field.

I have read about this game. It has great cultural significance for this planet's inhabitants.

Yeah... Irgelions have a few board games like this but nothing that requires the same level of tactics.

It's something that's really withstood the test of time.
