[Out of everyone who went to stop Raal Rovdy and the Death God Zs-a Wia Cheng had managed to get out of the battle the lightest, Despite the level of damage the YMIR took, the Jotunn's state meant it wouldn't be long before he was combat effective again. Which was why Cheng ( Read more... )

I'm okay, just in a lot of pain right now. The doctor has me on medication though.

Understandable... just do your best to recover. You did well.

Yeah. Are you okay, Cheng? No major injuries? I know the Jotunn is damaged though.

No...nothing major.. I should be combat ready within a few days but...

[He shakes his head, looking somewhat disturbed.]

Out of all of us I was the one who managed to get off the lightest. I... feel as if the opposite should have been true. Here I am, a mere soldier among heroes - and you all are the ones that have had the worst.

How am I doing?

Dude, I just killed a god.

I'm awesome!

I think you mean we killed a god. I do believe it was a team effort... one we owe especially to Azrad and Hadou I believe.

[Cheng let off a slightly tired chuckle... one that grew slightly more amused as he remembered a certain phrase uttered during the battle.]

Heh.. "Fuck yeah I am a sexy god of science and war"? Really Roads?

Team effort it was, but the final kill still goes to me. Honestly, I'm surprised more people aren't celebrating. I mean, that was a planet-ending threat there-and then it got worse-and we still won!

So...I stand by my statements. And anyone who has a problem can just DEAL.

You do realize that three people who were with us happened to be most likely under the age of ten and had to deal with something far beyond their understanding? That seems somewhat harsh.

What are you doing?

[Devon is curiously looking over her husband's shoulder on all the papers he's covering himself with.]

Studying.

[He gives Devon a small smile before looking back to the massive pile of books and papers.]

There is... a lot I don't know about...

Yes. A single person cannot possibly learn everything... but more is better than less.

Do you aim for a particular goal?

[Cheng looks over the sum of all the works he's studied, then turns to look at Devon.]

When the time comes... I intend to return to Gucun... and do my best to change it for the better.

That is my goal... to make it a place both my comrades and my family would be proud of.

Heh.

Don't worry about me, I'm tougher than I look.

Given that you were Commander Jin's fellow pilot and can use a Machine with such a reputation with relative ease that would clearly be the case.

[Samus happens to go past. She takes a look, nods solemnly, and takes the energy knife from her gun holster, activating it before handing it to Cheng to use rather than scratching at a metal wall with a normal knife.]

Thank you.

[If anything, the new knife makes it easier to etch the name in, and clean the others up slightly... better to give them a proper memorial than chicken scratchings.]

[Nod]

Surface scratches quickly fade with wear. Such a memento does not deserve to fade so soon.

[Indeed, the energy blade can be run into the wall like it was butter, allowing to carve the names deeply so that they last.]
