But yeah. Historically, December has always been turquoise. At least according to all the sources I've ever encountered.

And Wiki agrees with me, Ruby/Zircon and Onyx... Turquoise is actually the modern variety apparently... traditionally; Ruby/Zircon. Mythically; Onyx and according to the indians ruby again...

Quick googling gives me:
"December's birthstones are turquoise, lapis lazuli, zircon, topaz (blue), or tanzanite." (from wiki's December page)
"American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) announced that tanzanite had joined zircon and turquoise in the traditional list of birthstones for the month of December." (from http://www.galleries.com/minerals/gemstone/tanzanit/birthdec.htm)
"An alternate birthstone for December is the Turquoise." (alternate to blue topaz; from http://www.about-birthstones.com/decemberbirthstone.html)
So... -shrug-
I've never encountered ruby before... zircon, topaz, lapis lazuli and turquoise i've all seen, but never ruby. That's weird and cool.
