clink, clink,.... another drink?

So in the course of one page, our hero walks into his office, pulls out a bottle of bootleg bourbon and takes a slug of whiskey to calm his nerves. A few minutes later he pours himself a shot of bourbon and puts the whiskey bottle away before he goes into the next room to work.

And I'm left shaking my head, befuddled.

Given how bad the writing is, I'm left wondering if booze might have helped.

At one point a witty rejoinder is followed by ', was her clever response.'

If you need to tell me that it was clever, you're doing it wrong.
