I may just be moseying along

Well, it seems that LiveJournal has Fallen into evil. For those who haven't been following the controversy, they've basically decided to clean house of the filthy and freaky. In practical terms, this means something of a pogrom against the fandom communities they used to assiduously court back in the days when they needed more membership. They're ( Read more... )

Let me know where you move. I'll go with, unless it's Myspace.

Somebody needs to be strapped down, Clockwork Orange-style, and made to watch Pump Up the Volume until their eyes bleed.

DeadJournal used to be not-bad, though I haven't been there in years, and would, um. Have an intuitive interface.

Be serious. I'm over 30 and don't have a band.

I was currently looking at DeadJournal and InsaneJournal. Both support the OpenID thing which should facilitate sharing with people who stay with LJ. I just did some tests, and it does support custom friend group visibility. I have a test journal set up at IJ: http://squidminion.insanejournal.com/

I picked IJ over DJ because IJ allows free accounts while DJ requires either money or a referral. I don't mind paying in either case, but I wanted to play around first.

The head honcho at InsaneJournal says he's not deleting or banning without a court order. And he'll dump the Google ads if Google raises a stink about adult content in IJ blogs.

From what I understand, the past week has put him in the market for bigger, sexier servers.

Most damningly, they openly promised that written fiction was always acceptable (certainly a position the courts have generally taken). They ran the big permanent account sale. Then, after extracting as much money as they could, they started banning people and shutting down the various art and writing communities.

Back up a bit from that last sentence. Have they really gone that far? Do you have a link?

To my knowledge, the latest round has only banned visual material for obscenity. The written word is much more protected in America. I'm sure there's a way to define words as "obscene", but have you read LiveJournal's policy "clarifications"? They're trying very hard to imply that this is about child pornography. And images are more vulnerable to that label in American courts ( ... )

Well, bear in mind that I'm getting most of my information and hysteria from you. Odds are I don't know anything you don't.

I'll clarify the post, though.

That's confusing. Why not mark the edit? You've done it before.

And also, do you really want to join the list of asshats who falsely accuse me of hysteria?

Original text restored and corrections factored out into their own paragraph.

Sorry about the hysteria crack.
