Back up a bit from that last sentence. Have they really gone that far? Do you have a link?
To my knowledge, the latest round has only banned visual material for obscenity. The written word is much more protected in America. I'm sure there's a way to define words as "obscene", but have you read LiveJournal's policy "clarifications"? They're trying very hard to imply that this is about child pornography. And images are more vulnerable to that label in American courts.
I know of art-and-writing communities that are locking theirownselves down (and moving art offsite), but I don't know of any that have been completely banned. Not since LiveJournal's failed Memorial Day housecleaning, but all the fiction communities and individual fiction journals got reinstated that time.
