Myspace

Jan 26, 2006 12:31

I was thinking about creating a Myspace account at some point in the near future, but then it occurred to me that I'm not entirely sure what Myspace is. I know that it's a Friendster/Facebook/link to your friends social network thing where you can post a blog and put up pictures. Is there anything else ( Read more... )

I have myspace. I am on facebook more though.

But myspace is nice, because you can connect with people who aren't at school.

I don't have friendster though. . .what is that?

Friendster is like the same thing but I think it's more date-oriented, or at least that's how I explain the lack of people adding me. :)

But I think it was a lot more popular a few years back. Myspace is now much bigger.

MySpace is comparable to Friendster. I've known a lot of people who just copied their Friendster profile over to their MySpace page. The only big difference with MySpace is that people can customize their profile pages to include songs, short films, and big, ugly, annoying backgrounds that makes all the text impossible to read! (Well, good backgrounds exist, I'm sure. But they're hard to find on MySpace.)

Friendster just doesn't get much publicity anymore. People seem to hear about MySpace long before they hear about Friendster these days. So, MySpace attracts *everyone* -- Internet junkies who want to find old friends, and people who are just catching on to the Internet and post messages like "HEY HOW DO YOU MAKE UR PROFILE LOOK DIFFERENT!"

That being said, I have a MySpace account. I only use it for stalking purposes, though, because I'm an antisocial weirdo. I've found 30+ old classmates of mine through Friendster, and another 30+ through MySpace. Eventually, maybe, I'll say hello to some of those people, and maybe I'll start ( ... )

I'm currently considering it as I considered Friendster, once upon a time: oooo, I can have this page that links to all of my friends; that is so cool!

But, make no mistake, there will be stalking. Oh yes, the stalking will abound.

...But I didn't know people used their real names on Myspace. I thought it was mostly CaNdyKiSsSeSS696969, but I guess there must be some way to find other people that you know. Hmmm, now I'm even more curious.

I use both Friendster and MySpace to stalk and let me tell you, it's a soul comforting experience. And while I hate Myspace for all of the reasons stated above, I still have one and log on, every single day. But friendster is my favorite.

I realized yesterday that I am a much crappier stalker than I thought. I could use Myspace to improve my performance of tracking down people I haven't spoken to in 5+ years.

Retarded because of what it has to offer or retarded because of some of the bozos it attracts?

both. it really takes a lot of work, in my opinion. I find livejournal much more satisfying. And Facebook too. I think they're both more... immediate. I don't know. I appreciate how LJ is in my face all the time- my e-mail box, my client on my computer... My Space requires too much work! And what's more- I don't like that I can't stay logged in on my OWN computer. I have to type my password every time! And I'm lazy! ;)

{Plus the bozos. You can keep the bozos out on here fairly easily.)

I have Myspace. It's mildly pointless but strangely addicting. I like the comments and the blogs, but I don't really make much use of it. Mostly I just keep in touch with friends and coworkers. :) It's like text messaging but with a website!

That said, I'm an LJ girl all around.

Ah, like text messaging. That's interesting. I actually don't think very many people that I would text message have Myspace. Okay, I don't think there exist very many people who I would text message EVER, so...I'll probably make one but it will be even less purposeful than I hoped. :)
