ARRIVAL desert_bloomed August 10 2010, 17:11:14 UTC
Okay, everyone! Welcome to the Royal Palace of Rabanastre! Each student will be assigned two guards for the duration of our stay here. They will lead you to your rooms presently, after which we will enjoy a banquet!

Now, go find your rooms, all in the northern wing of the palace.

ARRIVAL (Rinoa) starlithysteria August 10 2010, 17:44:00 UTC
Rinoa was very excited the entire way to the palace. If there was any literature available to her about Rabanastre and the Palace, she read up (or refreshed her knowledge) of it before hand and brought some notes of things she wanted to see while she was here.

Her outfit (cause it's important OK) Blue and white baby doll shirt and a mini skirt, that she wore black shorts under. Black and white sneakers and very little jewelry. If she had to wear her school uniform... she would, but she showed up dressed like this first and pouted when she had to change. ._.

She chatted way too much with her guards. Asking everything from their names to where they were from, their favorite places in the city, if they were married, dating, had any children, etc, etc. She also loved her room and checked it out for anything awesome. Super fancy baths? Please?

Request for super fancy baths: granted!

Ashelia is also just over here, snickering at Rinoa talking to her guards. It's just too cute.

I hope you're finding everything to your satisfaction, Rinoa?

HURRAY. Rinoa took advantage of the fancy baths and soaked for a while, and used all the rose scented oils and any pampering thing she could find. She held back from jumping on beds... but she did appreciate the grandness of the place.

Rinoa wanted to be friends with her guards because it would be kinda creepy if they were just standing around her... watching. e_e It reminded her a little too much of being babysat.

Yes! This is the best field trip EVER.

BANQUET desert_bloomed August 10 2010, 17:14:56 UTC
Sit down, enjoy the food! There's juices, wines (though consumption is being heavily monitored, as there is no legal drinking age in Dalmasca), whole roasted cockatrices, flans (made from Flans, of course) pastries, fish, almost any food one can think of.

There're also a several bards playing in different corners of the gargantuan dining hall, the songs not clashing in the least due to the sheer distance between them. Mingle with the nobles and merchants of Dalamsca, ralks amongst yourselves, have fun! But don't get drunk; the hunt begins tomorrow, at the crack of dawn!

BANQUET (Rinoa) starlithysteria August 10 2010, 17:49:17 UTC
o______o Holy chocobo! Rinoa tried everything! Even the wine... which she watched the people that was watching her as she drank it. c_c She didn't want to get into trouble, but she was curious! She didn't eat until she was miserable, but she did try to take a bite or two of everything that was served!

She mingled like nobody's business, and even tried to get her guards into conversations too if they were being quiet. Rinoa also tried to get people to dance with her if a bard was playing a song that sounded like a good waltz number.

Drinking is totally allowed, though the watching and peering and staring is going to happen regardless.

And yeah, Ashelia is just over here, dancing with someone who might or might not be a suitor and looking uncomfortable.

Rinoa is good and only has one glass!

UNCOMFORTABLE? Rinoa sneaks in (guards in tow that she tells to be quiet and not look so obvious c_c), and she watches to see if it's an awkward /teehee I like this person/ uncomfortable, or /someone please save me/ kind of uncomfortable!

THE BRIEFING desert_bloomed August 10 2010, 17:31:55 UTC
lol did she say the hunt began at dawn? She meant you'll all be sitting in a remarkable recreation of the Summoning classroom at dawn.

Here, Ashelia lectures on the Esper Cuchulainn, their target for the hunt they are about to embark upon. Take notes, kids.

Cuchulainn is fond of casting status effect spells, such as Disable and Immobilize, and is joined by two Foobar monsters. Take stock of everyone here in the room; it is probably a good idea to team up with some of your classmates, though if you do, you will be graded on both your individual performance and your ability to work with your team.

You will have six hours to navigate your way through the Garamsythe Waterway, find Cuchulainn and defeat him. There are various monsters that make the Waterway their home as well; beware of those. Ashelia will, of course, be around to lend a hand should you need it, as will your guards.

Any questions?

THE BRIEFING (Rinoa) starlithysteria August 10 2010, 18:01:39 UTC
Augh. So early. Rinoa dragged herself into the room and plopped down in whatever chair she could find first and smacked her cheek a little to wake up some more.

She took notes, and when she missed something she turned to one of her guards and whispered to them, asking if they had heard whatever she missed. c_c She wrote down tons of stuff, and will ask around for people to join up with. She'd like at least to have two people with her in a group for this! But if she can get more, she wouldn't turn anyone down.

SIX HOURS made Rinoa slump in her chair and she hoped that it didn't take that long.

She asked if there was any information on the Esper or the Waterway that they could study. In a library maybe?

Ashelia refuses that request; everything they need to know will be told to them at one point or another. The rest is part of the test. Skill, power and resourcefulness are all key in summoning, as one almost never has even this much information at their disposal when seeking out spirits to contract with.

THE BRIEFING (Lucy) jigglingkeys August 10 2010, 22:41:39 UTC
Lucy's right there with you Rinoa, some of her initial enthusiasm dampened by the fact that six in the morning is not an hour she has ever been a fan of. Still, she wanted to impress Ashe, and so she's going to try and perk up. Maybe they were able to help keep each other awake and fill in the holes in each other's notes?

Lucy did ask if Rinoa would want to team up, since if they have been working together to get Rinoa's grades up then they already have an idea of what one another is capable of, and if not then this task a good chance for them to get to know each other.

THE HUNT desert_bloomed August 10 2010, 17:35:29 UTC
As Queen Ashelia leads the students into town, dressed in full battle garb, the guards gather closely around the group as they head for Lowtown. It's a whole other city underneath the Upper Stratum, though nowadays it's used only for its original purpose; as warehouses rented out to merchants for storage space. The group goes even deeper, though, into the Garamsythe Waterway.

Each student is given a map of the Waterway. You all have six hours to seek out and defeat the Esper Cuchulainn in battle, with the help of your fellow students should you wish it, and your guards ( ... )

Rinoa had waited out to see if she could gather more people to join her team in the hunt... but it turned out that most everyone already gathered and seemed a little too crowded. She wasn't worried though. Her group was awesome, and they had their guards with them to... so... they'll be fine.

She kept the map and asked her guards to see if they had any information about the Waterway that wasn't already given. For the most part, Rinoa played the part of navigator and held her wand out with a spell cast to light their path better. "You know... that outfit the professor was wearing was cute, don't you think?"

Lucy had stuck close to Rinoa, but allowed the other girl to keep a slight lead, knowing full well her strengths did not lay in close range combat. Honestly she was not quite as certain about this mission as Rinoa was, but the presence of the guards was a comfort, as was the belief that their teacher would not have sent them into any serious danger.

Rinoa's lighthearted chatter helped ease Lucy's nerves though, and she had embraced the conversation. "It was, especially her skirt." Though said skirt had been a bit shorter than Lucy had expected.

When it came to the close range combat, Rinoa stuck behind her guards and let them handle that. Already she trusted their skills and judgment completely... and there also was the reassurance about the situation not being too dangerous. It would seem that Rinoa are on the same page on that!

Rinoa did think the skirt was a little short, but she only wrinkled her nose a moment instead of commenting on it. "I love the shirt with how it's split in the back like coat tails." As she continued to check the map at each cross section, she continued on with the chatting. Talking about the banquet, about the orphanage that she had heard of the night before, about the really cool bathrooms they had... and the rooms, omg, AND THE VIEW, and at one point she brought the conversation onto boys, and especially on the couple of boys that have been giving her grief lately. She pretty much talked about anything except for their assignment and where they were right now ( ... )

Ashelia waits in the Overflow Cloaca, scrying the waterway to keep watch over her students.

Cuchulainn's Glyph of the Beast floats in one of the lower levels of the waterway, directly south of where everyone entered. As soon as it's approached, the crystal breaks, revealing This.

After a reasonable amount of time mulling around the mazes, Rinoa came out of it thanks to the help of the awesome teamwork between her and Lucy. And their guards that also helped out making sure the girls made it through okay.

While all the gathered waited for the last of the students to arrive, Rinoa made use of the time resuming with chatting with Lucy. She talked about many things- The flied trip so far. About how cool Lucy was when she kicked that rat in the face. She also asked about which Summon was Lucy's favorite and why. And very briefly Rinoa did as subtly as she could, try to find out if Lucy had a boyfriend. And even though it's been mentioned before, she also talked again about how great their rooms are at the Palace.

There will be a fight and Rinoa will not realize it's starting until the crystal breaks and the sound of the other students reaction echos throughout the room. Until then, it's chat time!

Again Lucy found herself surprised by meeting a girl who talked as much as Rinoa, not that her penchant for conversation was in any way a bad thing. It was just that after hanging out with stoics like Erza and introverts like Sei, and even Sakura could be quite a lot, Lucy had gotten used to having to carry most conversations with her female friends. Letting Rinoa take over that duty was actually a nice change of pace. She was more than happy to explain how she didn't really have a favorite summon, but how they were all special in their own way, going into great detail about their various habits and virtues, as well as a few of their vices, and in general sounding like she's talking about her children, not spirits. Oh, and no, she's single, that's mentioned in passing.

Aww it was so sweet how Lucy talked about her Summons! It reminded Rinoa a lot of how she would sometimes talk about Angelo because she didn't have any summons that she was particularly attached to, so the relationship she had with her familiar was the best way she could relate. It must be because they think of them as friends and companions rather than animals (or magical creatures)... or at least that's how she explained it ( ... )
