Jaina was already waiting.

Her arms were crossed over her chest, eyes trained on the door as she saw her...saw Zekk enter the common room. Seeing him in the typical school robes of Hogwarts, much less her House colors, was a startling contrast to the muted shades typical of the Jedi Order, but Jaina didn't let it show on her face. She also didn't show her confusion about why Zekk chose now to attend school.

Or the fact that she was checking her childhood sweetheart's face for signs of flinching when he saw her.

"Zekk."

Of course Jaina was already waiting.

Zekk knew that she would be.

It was easier than he thought it could have been to meet her gaze as he entered the room, glancing her over briefly. The briefest, bare minimum of facial twitches crossed his face before he locked any sort of tell-tale emotions down. Easier than he thought, but not easy enough. Not the same.

Not the old days, he had to remind himself.

"Jaina."

"Good. We still know each others' names," Jaina said flatly, noticing the wolf at Zekk's side for the first time. She frowned. Of course he had a wolf.

You have a type, Tuskan said with a snicker, rounding out from behind the couch he had destroyed earlier to crouch down by Jaina's feet.

Something flickered in his eyes, and Jaina wished she could tell herself that the pang in her chest wasn't caused by disappointment or hurt.

"Been awhile."

"Didn't... figure that we would actually forget them," Zekk muttered in slight confusion, brows furrowing. The wolf sat down next to Zekk as he stood there, staring at Jaina quietly.

There. You have seen each other. What now?

His gaze slipped from Jaina to Taryn, almost relieved that he had some wild excuse not to look at her for a moment. But the wolf didn't acknowledge his stare as her gaze slipped to the panther.

"It has been."
