English wasn't his first language and he was a relatively poor child so schooling wasn't really something he was gifted with. So coming to this place, where the majority of people spoke what he recognised to be English and wrote in the same language, little Akefia Bakura was by himself now. He spent some time doodling in a book but, now the 8 year old was bored and looking around the giant castle. He already accidentally went outside only to realize the world was white and really really cold so he prompty closed the door and never ventured back out again.

Akefia eventually stumbled across a little white creature and another boy around his age. Although he had no clue what to say since chances were that everyone he spoke to wouldn't be able to understand him and he just kind of stood around being completely awkward. He should have stayed in that room he was in before and kept colouring.

The Pharaoh Atem was a strange little boy. Full of wonder and curiosity, wanting to wander out of the palace walls rather than sit within the confines of his chambers, where all the servants did his every whim, and where he had no privacy to learn and explore on his own. It often gave his father headaches, though Mahaad and Mana never seemed to mind when the little one wound chance across them, asking them to tell him stories, or watching them study magic, just as he did with his own papyrus in the mornings ( ... )

Just standing around was never fun so, kicking at the dirt a bit, the young boy turned around and walked back the same way he came.

It wasn't till the other boy started talking to himself that Bakura stopped. He recognized that language. It was an older dialect than his native language but, they both came from similar regions and he knew more of that then he did English. So turning around again, Bakura walked up to the other boy and asked, in the same language, "You're from Egypt?"

Atem blinked, turning around to the young man who had addressed him.

The dialect was different, but he understood the language very well. He knew that tongue. His own tongue. Was this boy the only one in this place that spoke his own language? Maybe he journeyed a little further than he had thought.

...okay, much farther.

Though, it was odd. He wasn't treating him with the same sort of respect most did. Even inside the palace, people would bow to him, and even lie prostrate before him. Never had one, other than his father (or maybe Mahaad, though he, too, bowed prior to his usual chastising about Atem's apparent laziness), treated him like this.

Had he gone so far that nobody knew who he was?

That was...oddly refreshing. He'd never had a real conversation with someone his age before.

["I am."] He said. ["Are you?"]

Jaina entered the kitchens, a slightly troubled frown on her face as she took in the scenery. Things looked...different than they usually did, a few things had been moved around and her more analytical mind took it in with a small sense of curiosity before she turned her attention to what she was supposed to be doing in the first place.

She smiled slightly when she saw a short, young boy sitting and staring at the moogles with an awed look on his face.

"Yuugi?" She asked cautiously, waving her notebook in the air.

Jaina's eyes widened at the squeak that the boy she assumed to be Yuugi gave, but that turned into a smile after the small wave. He was a small kid, obviously waaaaay too young to be in school, and Jaina was bound and determined to get him back to his parents or guardians.

"Hello," she said easily, walking over to him and fiddling with her hair in an absent-minded manner, "Are you feeling alright? You didn't get hurt or anything?"

And yes, this is a blatant Anzu reference without it being a direct Anzu reference. puzzleshounen January 14 2010, 04:41:08 UTC
"N-No, I'm okay."

She was so cool! Confident and straightforward, too! She reminded him of that pretty girl that he saw in Kindergarten, who was always scaring the boys...except Jaina was taller and cooler, and was talking to him. Were all witches this cool?

He hoped that everyone was like this when he went to school. It'd be great!

Why couldn't he be twelve sooner?!
