It was a Saturday, and Haruhi was getting bored.
Her club members were all either recovering from injuries (the pansies) or off studying somewhere, and she needed someone to help her work on her masquerade costume.

Hmph. It was completely selfish of them to to be studying when there were other, more exciting things to be doing! Haruhi would not allow that to continue. Her face set, she headed for the Ravenclaw common room. (Kyon was always there ( ... )

Her voice sent a shiver up his spine and he started from where he'd been watching a bird fly around in the sky.

Kyon turned towards Haruhi slowly and blinked. He could ask how she got in there, but it didn't really matter, there she was.

"I am so. See all the books? I'm working on Transfiguration."

Haruhi's glare stayed right where it was.

"Even if you were studying," (her tone implied that she highly doubted this) "there are more important things to do!"
There was always something more important that just sitting around, wasting your life away.

Kyon really couldn't argue with that statement. He ran fingers through his hair thoughtfully.

"I don't want to study, but I have to." Kyon decided. "I have work to turn in and if I get another P, my mother is going to be really mad."

Despite being a Griffindor Harry was actually a fairly regular fixture in the Ravenclaw common room. His close friendship with Kazumi and the often volatile nature of his own house's inhabitants frequently left Ravenclaw as the far more logical choice for their study sessions.

This time, though, it seemed Kazumi was still out, so Harry had no choice but to settle down on one couch and ignore the occasional pointed stare that asked why the tall Griffindor was loitering in hallowed study ground. Indeed, the stares seemed to say, shouldn't he be off getting into trouble?

Ignoring them, Harry fought down the usual awkwardness that came from being alone among a bunch of strangers and focused on some way to distract himself. Kyon's inability to study soon provided just such a distraction.

"Transfiguration got you down?" Harry asked. Normally he wouldn't have said anything, but he actually did know Kyon a little, and anything was better than play 'count the books in the common room' for the thousandth time.

"Among other things." Kyon said wryly. He was fidgety and squirming around, humming and hawing over his homework was probably quite distracting to others.

"I kind of get things, but not that clearly." He explained. "Then I get frustrated and give up and that's really just going to lead to my mother yelling at me." He smirked a little. "Circle of life maybe?"

"More like the circle of academia, which has a lot more essays and a lot fewer singing warthogs," Harry replied with a shrug. Even after all these months the teenager still found himself struggling in a lot of his classes, but compared to the hell that had been public school he really couldn't muster up the will to be bitter about his own lack of magical knowledge.

"Frustration with homework is a experience I'm all too familiar with. What's giving you trouble?"

Kyon laughed. Being from a Muggle family, he was completely familiar with Harry's commentary. "I never cared for singing warthogs."

Ah yes, public school. Kyon felt he was equally bad at that.

"Mostly my motivation. Listening to another lecture isn't that much of a threat really. But...I guess I probably shouldn't have left everything last minute either." He scratched his head.
