"The gloomiest girl in the school" was sitting with her arms crossed over her chest in a chair that overlooked the entrance to the common room. A lot had been going on recently, she'd noticed, and while Seifer had been laid up in the hospital wing, she'd been doing her studies. Mai wasn't the sentimental type at all and so she hadn't even thought about going to visit him.

Now that he was out, she'd agreed to meet him here and so she waited. Once he stepped into the room, she stood, and moved to meet him.

"Empty classroom or here?" she asked, her usual monotone slightly calmer than normal since she was speaking with Seifer. Her expression had also softened a bit once she spotted him, but she still looked like the same old Mai.

Finally spotting Mai, sitting as she usually did with her arms crossed and a gloomy look on her face. However, once she had risen to greet him, Seifer was amazed by the slight change in her as he walked to her. Even if it was a small deviation from the norm, he wasn't expecting her to explode in bubbles and sparkles with happiness. He had known Mai well enough to understand how significant this really was ( ... )

At first, Mai resisted the hug for the sheer fear that Larxene would walk in and have one more weapon at her disposal. Mai had worked hard to keep Larxene from gaining any ground against her and she didn’t want to give the bitch anything else. Eventually, she did relax mostly, allowing herself to feel his arms around her. It was… nice in a way, to have someone who would want to protect her, even if she was more than willing and capable of doing so herself.

She shrugged in response to his murmur before pulling back so she could examine his expression. Seifer was more expressive than she ever had been, but that was just how they were. They still got along (obviously) and that was really what mattered. “Somewhere private, then,” she told him, hand reaching up to rest at the neckline of her robes, under which was the kunai necklace he had made for her. It served to remind her of him and solidify their relationship.

Seifer felt the resistance, but for as much as he knew about Mai and her disgust for things this intimate, he was still not surprised. What did surprise him was her relaxation. He wasn't sure if she even still liked him at this point. But, after feeling her sharp frame turn cool and loose, he could only want to grip a little harder. It was the one solid thing he never possessed or controlled, but he could always turn to it for solace within himself ( ... )
