In truth, Toph really didn't want to leave the dorm room. No one would bother her and ask if she was ok there. She did say that she'd walk with Aang, so she forced herself to put on something more appropriate than her pajamas and trudged down to the lake.
She said nothing as she plopped down next to Aang.
"Hey..." Aang greeted, trying to give a small smile. He tossed another pebble into the lake before plopping down next to Toph.
"...He was...like a dad to you...wasn't he?" He asked quietly, looking out at the lake rather than in Toph's direction. Maybe he should have waited for her to say something first.
Toph could only nod at the question. She knew that if she tried to open her mouth, she'd start crying, and she didn't want anyone to see that. A tear managed to escape, but she wiped it away once she felt it on her cheek.
