Tell me about yourself

So if you had a song written about you, or about you and your spouse, or about something you did, what would you want included? Would you rather a life story in a ballad? Would you rather a comical tune telling of adventures you've been on? What sort of thing would you like ( Read more... )

I've always thought that songs of a battle (the journey metaphore rather than the 'and then I killed this guy!') were kind of cool, and I gotta say, the idea of a couple version of that is exciting. There was this one time Bill and I were fighting side by side in the shade of the cliffs at Southern Crusades. The two of us took on several waves of people and made a stand that lasted longer than it had any right to. I imagine it looked like a whirlwind of blades, but to us, it was a perfectly coordinated dance of alternating defense and attack. The idea of a war-song duet where the parts weave together in a rising crecendo of parts sung together, alternating with increasing rapidity and ultimately different lyrics at the same time to convey that unity of descruction.... It gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

Pity I'm completely unable to really express what I'm thinking of.

It's also one of those items that it probably more easily seen than described. I also think you're (like I) a fan of duets that interweave between harmonization and counter-point both in singing and fighting. But that's a stylistic item rather than a content. You'd be happier listening to a well done war sonnet about dancing mice than a mediocre one about you.

@Inara: I think I'd want the tune to be something the bard was inspired by, whatever it might be. I wouldn't want it to be something forced and contrived. I'd rather see the bard follow their muse, even if it ends up being a little risque, roasting or whatever.

For me, my muse tends to be when someone says "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if you did XYZ for someone?" Now that Perin has said 'Ooooh cool idea for a duet relating to fighting and singing and harmonizing' it's totally put a bug in my ear. I also love it when people simply say 'write something for me' because I can take that personality, persona if I so choose, or anything that I've seen them do and mess with it. lol and now I've got about 3-4 different strings in my head of possible songs/stories to create. Gotta love the help of others :o)

I would want you to write a song for me that you felt suited me. Wether it was a ballad or comedic would be up to you, hon. :)
